STEREO+ IS PLAYING: Hurricane Season

What an unexpected treat from singer/songwriter Ted Wingfield. Born and raised in the Midwest, his second album under the Hurricane Season monicker, “Homophones” is a tribute to the music which shaped him as an artist. With guest appearances from some unexpected artists like Nicole Watkins, Cats On Fire, and Full Iron Waistcoat- this is a treat for those waiting for the bluegrass revival movement. It is here but not quite as you remember it.

Standout tracks include “Lipless” about Wingfield’s personal struggle with drugs including his low point while on Glint back in the late 90’s. There’s “Exnay” which seems to be a romantic ballad dedicated to a former folk singer (our bets at Stereo Plus are on Stevie Nicks or Carole King). And “Cursed and Beget” that has some amazing vocals courtesy of Wingfield’s old elementary school choir. If you’re a fan of The Avett Brothers, Medicine Crow Show Revival, or Sufjan Stevens- you’re in for Hurricane Season.
